Wheels 2020 shows off CACMC diversity of member vehicles

There were around 50 historic vehicles on display in the CACMC area on the main arena at Queanbeyan Showgrounds, not to mention those parked with other specialist clubs. The weather was fine and the grass on the arena was mostly green, making a very pleasant day with minimal dust. The Club team arrived early to set up our marquee and information tables in prime position next to the vehicle entrance.

Several cars were new to the club – including Matthew Houston’s 1923 Alvis Ducksback and John Tuckey’s unique Rochdale Mustard.

The Rochdale Mustard was hand built by John’s father, on a tubular frame powered by a Ford Anglia motor. The Mustard got a thorough check-over by CACMC’s diligent team of examiners. Doing the assessments for the Club’s annual trophies are (L to R) Graham Bigg (legs only), Joe Micallef, Waine Summerfield, Malcom Noad (reclining) and Bob Alexander. [NB this photo was not posed!].

Rod Greschke’s glittering 1929 Dodge DA was awarded the Wheels organizers’ “Guest of Honour’s Prize”. Karl Maftoum’s sturdy and very original 1950 Lanchester LD10 got an honourable mention in the same category.

The plucky Austin A30 used to be everywhere but is rarely seen these days, even at historic car events. Here Dave Byers pays proper respect to Rob Mihalyka’s immaculate 1956 A30.
