CACMC Beat the Heat at Honeysuckle Creek – 19th March 2023

The threat of an unseasonal 37degrees hot day did not put off our hardy membership, who brought 28 picnickers in 18 vehicles to the run. Some brought vehicles less often seen at club events. Several convertible owners welcomed the sunshine with tops down: Brian O’Donnell’s Skyliner, Howard Taylor’s MGB, John Liston’s MGA and Brian Ely’s Triumph Spitfire.

It’s a fairly steep and steady climb up Apollo Road once you leave Bobeyan Road, past Tharwa. None of the older vehicles had to stop for breath, but by the time we got to the shady picnic ground at Honeysuckle Creek, at least two of us were ready to let off a little steam in the shade – the Skyliner and our Daimler Conquest seen below with bonnet up.

We had the picnic ground almost to ourselves and enjoyed a relaxing lunch with opportunities to chat and socialise. We had some reminiscences from Graham Bigg, who had been working at the Tracking Station when it monitored the Apollo moon landings. Then we had an unhurried downhill run home.
